Your website must be unique! Although there might be other companies offering similar services as you, your website must be unique with your colours, layout and navigation.
Easy navigation. If your links and buttons aren't easy to find and quick to access on your site then visitors will lose interest in your site.
Attractive design with minimal amount of graphics. Graphics should be used to help describe text or to show your services and products. Excessive clip-art and too many moving graphics can distract visitors from the information you are trying to provide. Your website will also have up to date layouts and design techniques that are current and won't look 10 years old.
The home page. This important page will make or break your site. The home page should have a quick blurb about your company, products and services, and some features to attract visitors and lure them to read more about your company. The home page is what will make visitors want to either read more about your company, or quickly lose interest and leave your site which you don't want!
Easy to find. Your website has to be easy to find in search engines. Ranking your website by the company name is the worst way to rank your site! Why? Simply put, how many people will be searching by company name? If you start a new company in Halifax offering cellular phone accessores and call it "Wireless Acessories" how much traffic will you get with the company name?
What you want to do is rank the site using keywords that people will actually search for. Examples: "cell phone case halifax" "cell phone charger halifax". These are the keywords people will be searching for.
Location! Location! Location! Just like in real estate, you need to let your visitors know where you are. You need to be in Google maps™, Bing™ maps, and the Yellow Pages™ online. 60% of people are using smartphones to surf the web. The screens are small, so sites like Google™ have designed their site to make surfing with a smartphone easier. There are also free apps for smartphones like Yellow Pages™ too.
